Do you have to be homosexual, or even male to enjoy viewing Yaoi?

Also, which is more acceptable, a homosexual male looking at Yaoi, heterosexual male viewing Yaoi, homosexual female looking at it, or heterosexual female viewing it?

Another question, if you have never had sex, how do you determine your sexual preference?

Any other gender related questions, post here... I don't know if there was a specific section for gender, but this might be a good place to start... :D

RobM May 19th, 11 09:21 AM

- No.

- Nothing is ever 'unacceptable' except in the minds of prejudiced idiots.

- Because orientation is about love, not sex, you don't need to. You usually know loooong before sex.

Tritium May 21st, 11 11:11 AM

everyone can choose what to look at, and what not to look at. as long as your way doesn't harm anyone, it's nobody's business what you watch, and how you feel about it!!!

kaworufan May 22nd, 11 03:51 AM

Not at all - BL manga is mostly targeted toward a female audience in Japan (and written by women), anyway, rather than a gay male one. Actually, most users on another yaoi forum I used to visit (though the gallery here is more well-organized) were heterosexual females, with a smaller amount of gay/bi/etc. men, and an even smaller amount of straight men (apparently they do exist, straight guys who like or appreciate yaoi).

MelloMail August 19th, 11 02:55 AM

Of course not! :O Lots of guys like yuri, right? Same thing. I basically look at it as why have ONE guy when you can have TWO? 8D Although regular is fine too. Even yuri is fine by me, so I don't see why it can't go the same for men. In my eyes, there's nothing wrong with exploring sexuality and just enjoying what you find attractive.

As for sexual preference, it is what it is: A preference. It's important to not let it define you and to keep in mind that it's okay if you change how you feel later on. In fact, determining that you are "straight" or "gay" can be kind of limiting, don't you think? If you really can't tell your sexual orientation, it's probably best to go with bi.

Pen August 20th, 11 02:13 AM

I think Yaoi is aimed mainly at women, though I think it's fine for anyone and everyone to enjoy it :)

I have no idea, I still don't know what I am yet ^^' I think it doesn't have too much to do with actual sex, though. But I wouldn't know, being a virgin xD

rikusora August 20th, 11 01:06 PM

I once saw tritium eat a whole sandwich. Then I realized I was gay.

Tritium August 20th, 11 04:03 PM

It's a lie. He's just pulling your leg.

Shadow-san October 22nd, 11 05:29 AM

well, I'm female, and I look at yaoi. I like yaoi, I write and read yaoi. I like yuri, I read yuri(haven't gotten around to writing it yet though.) It really doesn't matter who you are, or what you are, it's up to you, do what you want and don't let anyone tell you that what you think is right is wrong.

Also... as for the sexual preference question, I swing both ways... gimme what you got. That doesn't mean to say that I would be one of those cheating bitches you hear about, When I'm in a relationship its for something more than sex, there has to be an emotional connection there, and if there's not, just come out and say it, don't fuck around behind your partner's back with someone else.

and determining your sexual orientation has nothing to do with sex. Whomever you love is who you're meant to be with be it a guy or a girl. No one should be ashamed of their orientation, anything that makes you happy should make everyone around you happy too.

ncrc October 22nd, 11 06:27 AM

Well, I think Yaoi is for anyone to view, as long as they want to :)

agreed, agreed and agreed :D

and seriously, who cares?! ô.O
even it may be true that yaoi is mostly created by female authors, it doesn't means it has to be for them only >.>
well, im male and gay. and im here. omg!
i have to say that im more into the softcore/shonen Ai stuff though. mostly because i prefer any fiction about love over plain porn. and im gay cause im able to really fall in love with someone of the same gender, not because i only want to have sex with them >.>

KyuremuRawr October 26th, 11 04:12 AM

I don't think people have to be gay, or a guy, to enjoy yaoi... Though lots of it caters to female audiences and typically has surrogates that act as viewer avatars (aka feminine guys, essentially), some yaoi does not. And of course, just as how some guys who are straight like watching gay porn cause of the feel/energy of it, audiences don't have to be what was intended, aka they don't have to adhere to the target audience. Blargh, I can't word things well for my life

Serelinda October 26th, 11 11:57 PM

There is nothing wrong with liking yaoi. Ever.
And it doesn't matter who likes it. We're all here cause we like it!

KyuremuRawr October 27th, 11 03:22 AM

^ Wurd =p. If there was a like thingy, I would like the above comment.

rainduo December 25th, 11 06:54 PM

I suppose i might be bi. I've had sex with females, and i love that, but i also love yaoi....

manake December 27th, 11 01:45 AM

either way, it is up to that person decision. it could be mix feelings (or hormones) nothing to be ashamed of. others just stick to reality, the fun stuff begins in your fantasy. :3

deady December 27th, 11 02:08 AM

Yaoi is for all, and no one is immune to it's amazing-ness.
Orientation is love, like who are you attracted to not really who would you like to F@%# all night long.

Varné January 10th, 12 01:16 PM

Well there's one unacceptable thing: heterosexuality... (Is there such thing as heterophobia?)

tmas January 15th, 12 10:52 PM

well I guess I'll be the technical one :P

yaoi is meant for female audiences according to wikipedia, although I do not think it matters.

I wouldn't pay attention to whats written on wikipedia if it told me that fire burns and that that the sky was blueish. You're very right to say it doesn't matter whats written on wikipedia.

Silver Fang January 18th, 12 11:10 AM

Yaoi is intened for ayone who likes male x male. Usually that means women. But, some women are lesbians, thus not interested in men, and somem men are gay. But society's natural intends yoai for women.

It doesn't matter though, There's no law saying what people can and can't enjoy. Men can like yaoi just as much as women. Same for yuri.

toph January 22nd, 12 06:11 AM

From what I understand, a lot of yaoi is made by women for women. I don't really enjoy that kind as much (I'm a gay man), but I do really enjoy bara.

I guess that women prefer "handsome" men while men prefer "masculine" men.

coocoo757 January 22nd, 12 08:29 AM

Im female I HAVE PROVEN MY POINT

iceley11 January 22nd, 12 03:39 PM

Orientation doesn't really matter here, I agree with the person who said there is no "more acceptable" in this case.
It's like choosing pets, no pet is more acceptable than the other because we all have our preferences.

There are well over 100 sources on most Wikipedia pages, this specific page lists several art colleges and research centers.

I wouldn't steer you wrong ! ^_^

HAHAHAHAHA!
Nice one!

Wikipedia is, and always will be, shit.
It will be shit as long as it is edited by, for, argued over by opinionated geeks and controlled by obsessive nerds.

There's a reason its a disciplinary offense to use wikipedia for coursework AT the universities, research institutions and think-tanks that are so frequently cited by wikipedia.
Its because its put together on the basis of "What can't be disproven" which is why its full of page after page after page of gossip, bullshit, uncited, unprovable crap.
I won't argue that pages like "Yaoi" are probably fine, because this is dead-on anime geek territory and the truth is going to be whatever they decide, pop-culture is of course just that, whatever someone decides at the time. But for anything factual you're essentially just going up to strangers in a pub and asking them. For all the sources they claim to be linked to, none of it is verifyably in the text, you have to take it on trust that the source is legit since citations are never checked, often can't be checked or link back to people who got their info from wikipedia in the first place.

Of the hundreds of sources on most pages, many of them are often to newspapers and statements made on media. Do you know where most newspapers do their research... on wikipeda.
Its just circular logic and almost like trolls trolling trolls.

Whether statistically wikipedia might be right on certain articles, points or even for whole paragraphs at a time I still wouldn't trust it at all and no sensible person should.

Radx26 January 29th, 12 07:04 PM

Depends on whether you just like it or you actually want to relate to the characters.

Laughing-Kitsune January 30th, 12 05:12 PM

I'm a heterosexual female, and I love yaoi! But...does it really matter who watches it? Anyone can watch it if they want, it's about preferences. I've read yuri, but I'm not as keen on it as I am yaoi :P I've also written some yaoi myself.

jakeamule February 1st, 12 07:12 AM

I'm a gay guy and I sometimes feel out-numbered compared to the many straight women that read it. I also sometimes read Yuri but only for the comedic plots. (There is no way that I would read it for other reasons for an obvious reason....)

As for finding out sexuality without sex is to just find out where the attraction is.

What they said.

HkOmg February 15th, 12 11:49 PM

Well i love Yaoi, thats all

Art.Greylace February 17th, 12 11:13 AM

Well, as I'm a het female...

I figure any of them is 'acceptable'. Though, why a straight guy would find it attractive, I can't really fathom. I know at least one gay guy, and one bi girl who're into it. (as in, know them outside of computers)

Straight guys tend to stay away, and I can see why (yuri is not so attractive to me).

I'd love to find a straight guy into yaoi, mind! I'd be so all over him!

Oliverbr February 26th, 12 12:55 PM

Eo you think that every guy in here is gay or bisexual?

It's very hard to imagine a straight guy here... but theres probably some guys who think that they are 100% straight even that they like watching and masturbating to yaoi lol, I found out that i was bisexual reading yaoi, someone with a similar history?

Oliverbr February 26th, 12 10:50 PM

The Question is: Do you think that there are bisexuals out there that don't want to accept that they like mens? you know, people that didn't realize that they're bisexual.

For me took some time to accept it and realize, i mean... i was looking at gay porn(not yaoi) but if someone asked me my sexuality i would say that i was straight, i think i was confused.

You know People that watch gay porn but don't think as themselves as bisexuals do you believe that they exist? that they are here in the forum and on the internet reading yaoi and watching gay porn.

pheonixboi1 February 27th, 12 01:48 AM

no i know people who are straight its fine

can never go wrong with yaoi

kyuuichan February 27th, 12 04:00 AM

I think it's just all down to what you find interesting. As a straight female, I'm not into yuri (in RL), but if it when it crosses my path (in fiction), I can find it just as interesting as het or yaoi. I think it can be the same for yaoi and men, straight or other wise.

Laegjarn March 2nd, 12 02:01 AM

Yaoi seems to appeal to a wide range of people; the interesting one is that I know there are lesbians who are all about other women IRL, who still like m/m smut and think it's hot.
Gender and attractions are a funny old business - there are always exceptions and cases of 'it's complicated.'

AzazL March 2nd, 12 04:16 AM

well for male more likely you will like yaoi if you are homosexual but I don't think that applied to female. Well some straight men think yaoi is interesting.

palleh September 20th, 12 05:18 AM

I have plenty of female friends that love yaoi :)
