Some things you dislike about yaoi?

Seriously though, what are some things you just haaaaaate? And I don't just mean the yaoi genre itself, I'm including fan art, fanfiction, fandom, and anything else that comes to mind.

Personally I hate:

1. The whole rape equals love thing. Sure I might go read a quick pointless yaoi if I need a fix, and that doesn't bug me then. Though when I'm trying to find a good manga with believable characters and all I can find are ones where the whole relationship for the main couple started when when one guy raped another guy who he had an unrequited love with or a guy that raped his best friend that wasn't even aware of his feelings and then they end up a couple I get annoyed. I mean come on, if you were raped my someone (best friend or not) would you turn right around and start dating him!?

2. The lack of yaoi with any decent plot whatsoever. Yeah, there are some good ones out there. They seem to be in the minority though, a lot of what I've seen are just straight sex and what little semblance of a plot there is is just to get the characters to bang each other.

3. Overzealous Fans. You know the ones, I won't even go into detail with that. Thats the second reason I'm a closet yaoi lover. I don't like to be generalized.

4. Unattractive art in a yaoi that has a horrible story. I mean come on! If the storys going to suck at least have something worth looking at! Its a double whammy, two slaps in the face!

5. Mary sue/stus.

6. Mpreg. WHAT.THE.HELL? Just because Harry is a wizard doesn't mean he can get pregnant nor does making the Kyuubi in Naruto a female allow Naruto to give birth to a child.



Now don't get me wrong people, you're free to like whatever you want, this is just my opinion. So don't get your hackles all raised.

Well, I wouldn't say all yaoi works lack a good plot. I've read some pretty good ones that had amazing action as well as steamy hhh action. Though I never bothered to put down the names, so I don't remember them, lol. No, wait, Wild fangs was a good manga!

But yea, the rape equals love thing is really stupid. Also there are stories who have no logic whatsoever behind them. Just brainless pounding. Others are just too violent. I hate yaoi tragedies!!!!!!

The Mpreg thing sounded kinda gross in Sex Pistols. I was like WTF? when the dude in the 2nd OAV was told how to put that worm whatever inside of him. Talk about a major turn off!!

Guess these are some of the things I don't like.

I think Yaoi should be kept to OC´s

It kinda fucks up my view on the character XD

I don't like how with some yaoi, (especially the doujins/mangas) certain things don't make sense. I agree that there tend not to be solid plots, that is a little aggrevating. Sometimes certain wants try to overcompensate for the lack of plot with a highly explicit sex scene.

At that point the viewer is so lost they don't even find the scene worth the confusion. Another thing is that sometimes a yaoi will draw out a scene too long and it becomes boring to the point the viewer/reader does not desire to continue.

1.) M-Preg... No thanks.

2.) No plot just smex... Hot but give me SUBSTANCE!

3.) The standard jackass, smoking, always frowning "Badassed" seme. I'd love a badass, not a prick...

Shota - Dude, rooting a kid who's the same age as your little bro...srsly? D:

NO PLOT JUST SEX - Some mangas/doujins/fanfictions are good without the plot...but mostly are really just a slap on the face. I mean, at the first part , their already tearing their clothes and jumping onto the bed..ending? Seme & Uke climaxed.
The end. Kinda boring imo.

Crappy Art work - Nobody likes to read manga w/ a crappy drawing...it's the first thing that we appreciate especially when reading a NEW manga.
And some mangas have a really crap stories combined w/ crappy drawing too :|

Soft spoken/Blushy ukes - Whose only role in the manga is to get raped repeatedly.

Bara - No comment

Contrived Plots - I like my yaoi to have interesting plots..not the one that I can easily guess and get 100% right. That's just boring & very unoriginal.

1. I really hate yaoi which are too dreamy, I mean it can be both the art and the plot.
2. I dislike yaoi with the same plot as shoujo manga. They just have to change the girl into a guy and that's it.
3. About doujinshi, I hate it if the 2 main characters are paired up just because they're hot. I care about feelings more and I need to have good reasons to pair them up, not just because of their appearance :|

Mpreg is just...too weird for me. -.- And I've never been a fan of incest, in yaoi or het. It just feels so inherently wrong, y'know? Bluh.

Furry, BDSM, torture... I mean, I prefer "normal" yaoi.

in general, for both pics and manga/doujinshi i like it more if the characters seem to actually have somekind of relationship, instead of just plain blunt sex :/ (uhhm... romance?)

Hmm lets see, I don't really like the whole Bara thing, or any doujin that has crossdressing in it unless I really like the characters or its made to be funny. The one thing that really gets my blood boiling though is the whole young guy x experienced guy sort of thing, I mean come on in Junjou Romantica that guy was like 38 and he was with a guy who was maybe 22. Thats just bad.

I like man x man, so although I still like yaoi if only for the fact it's lots of pictures and not a lot of writing (in most cases unfortunately) I tend to read male/male fan/fiction...but even that is not safe from the influence of yaoi generalisations (which I hate!) such as:

- Hairless males claiming to be of legal age (personally I have never met a male that has gone through puberty and come out hairless, hell I'm a girl went through puberty and got hair ffs lmao)

- Traps (short, blush easily, ants in pants shyness...I've not met many real females like this tbh lol), I have read a lot of yaoi that has the seme mistaking the uke for a girl when they were younger >_>

- Ukes that keep saying "no" it's rape beyond that point in my opinion, I'm not saying that in some cases saying "no" is a way of teasing the other but I think it's probably really hard to draw, for the reader (at least me) to differentiate between rape and teasing :/

This applies to a lot of fiction:

- Too much leather! Leather pants, leather ties, leather shirts etc...hate to break it to you but leather is only fashionable when worn on the feet there might also have been a season where it was "in" but yea only a season so take it off and head down to Levi's geez

- Emus (urgh too many emus writing about other emus being emu hehe)

i agree 100%. so many yaois seem to have EXTREME violence or rape. A little force can be hot but wtf, I dont want to see one guy chain up another and forced to become a sex slave.

Oh I'm gonna vent so hard baby.

1) The unspoken rule bullshit rule that the semes must ALWAYS have more attractive appearances and personalities than the ukes. I mean just by describing the character traits of the boys it's taken for granted that the more gorgeous and charismatic character is the seme.

2) Ukes who day dream and fantasise about being ravished and made love to by their semes, whereas the semes never seem to have any such fantasies. Is lust really that freaking one-sided?

3) Ukes who babble, moan, pant, groan, gasp, scream, cry and make incoherent sounds of pleasure during sex, whereas the semes never express any sort of pleasure. NONE whatsoever. Now I may not have a dick, but I do imagine it rocks to make love the man of your dreams.

4) Constant Uke POV. Seriously, what the FUCK is up with that?! I despise being stuck in the uke's head all the time without knowing the seme's thoughts and feelings. Or do they assume that because I'm a girl I'll 'relate' better with the uke? Bullshit logic.

5) Huge disparity between the seme and uke. The former rates an 11 out of 10 on the hotness scale. The latter rates a 4. What's the FREAKING point?!

6) The Mary Sue uke who's basically nothing but a proxy for delusional fangirls to experience the seme's attentions. WHY read yaoi? WHY not just pick up the latest trashy Mary Sue shoujo romance and dream of that hot guy instead?

7) The notion that semes are the only ones with love making skills. I mean, freaking wake up!!! The uke is ALSO involved in the foreplay and intercourse, the uke ALSO contributes to making it a fantastic experience.

I hate the lack of Doujin ANIME!!!!

But in regular Yaoi I do hate the lack of plot.

I dislike how predictable the plots are. Seriously you'd think there were only 3 story twists you could choose from =/

I tend to dislike yaoi without any actual plot. I mean yes, if I'm looking for something with lots of sex I'm more lenient, but most of the time I'd prefer a story with actual... substance. And it's very annoying when the seme and uke roles are played in the extreme where the seme is a dick and the uke can barely speak a sentence without blushing. Not to mention bad art ruins the whole thing.

I haven't watched any yaoi movie yet (didn't find any)

But I can complain about the images I've seen so far:
There are too many Yaoi Images which are drawn very bad. And often there are charakters which dont have any muscle, just a very small dick and dont have a cute face. :/

I personally dont like how the yaoi boys always have to go through the butt.

2. The yaoi-crazy girls (ones who will not shutup about it)

4. The only yaoi doujinshi I can get is usually in Japanese ;-;

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has the pet peeves that I do! Mine are:

• Whiny ukes - seriously. STAHP. I like yaoi because I like seeing two men with each other. Sometimes sissies are cool, but its a way overused archetype and I just really dislike it. Along with this, the "pure, virginal" uke stereotype is really lame and overplayed. I'd love to see a power bottom uke for once! Or at least someone who isn't confounded by the concept of intercourse.
• Ridiculous bara - there's a point where bara stops being bara and just becomes legitimately insane.
• Glorified abuse - I really hate how abuse is glorified and translated as acceptable behavior in yaoi often. The cold seme types who don't seem to give two craps about their significant other. The ones that do as they please with the other without the person's full consent. The mind games I'll often see semes play. It's all abuse and it's not okay! I wouldn't mind if it was just present in a few things, but it's so prevalent!
• Censorship - That little black bar they put over men's privates drives me up the wall. What's the point? "OH GEE I WONDER WHAT IS UNDER THAT BAR HMMM??". Like, I understand Japan has strict censorship laws, so it can't really be helped, but it's just such a dumb, little detail. Pixelation is pretty standard, at least it seems like the person tried, but it still sucks because we all know what's beneath the pixels and not being able to see it just drives me further up the wall. I think the most pathetic one is the "invisodick" kind of censoring where there's just nothing there.
• Characters being way OOC - I know people have the right to depict characters how they want in their own work, but to me, if a character is way OOC, what's the point of even having them there? Why not just use your own OCs instead of trying to shove already established characters into your cookie cutter mold?
• The lack of content - For this, I'm thinking mainly of animated content. I know there are more factors into this than "I wanna make an animated yaoi lets do it", Japan is pretty prude and there is a lot of financial stuff to consider as well. It just sucks. If I looked up regular, het hentai right now and tried to find something animated, I'd be met with thousands of options. It sucks that there are so few, legitimate, animated yaois out there! Amongst the minority of M/M that gets animated, most of it is vanilla as heck (the Gravitation anime), "hides" the actual act (Koisuru Boukun, Ai no Kusabi, Junjou Romantica), or is very short (Sex Pistol OVAs). Heck, we're lucky if any actual romance occurs and isn't just implied like with Togainu no Chi. Of the three actually explicit pieces of yaoi animation I can think of off of the top of my head, two of them are shota (the Boku no Pico series and the other one with the maid guy) and censored. Then we have Sensitive Pornograph, a true treasure. Actual, animated yaoi with sound and even a plot.
