3D Conversions update's and feedback.
Hey guys,
I wanted to open this topic to keep you updated about the images I will be converting, but also to receive some feedback about the 3D effect. Both positive but negative as I know I make allot of mistakes doing these. After spending couple hours sometimes on some images converting it, I upload something and the depth may not be what it is supposed to be, example: Flipped depth (back on front, front in the back), wrong depth (layered wrong or haven't fixed a hole in the image), or if it doesn't work at all. So yeah, that's sort of it :) |
Collected a couple of images that I guess should make most happy: The following image shows the next four I will be converting. One is already almost finished (feet), hopefully I will be able to upload atleast two tomorrow. But I wouldn't personally count on a new conversion the next two days, converting them will take some time (the feet one toke almost 3 hours!).

Oooh, I love the last image >:D
How to you convert these images then? Perhaps other people can learn how and upload alongside you. |
Alright this will be a very long story with things I always keep in mind when making one myself..
I take an image I personally like and make sure that: One: the image has a ratio of at least 1.33:1 or more. Images that have less are possible, but unwise considering the 3DS screen is which ratio is 1.66:1. If you have a lower aspect ratio then 1.66:1 you will get pillar boxing, that's not bad if the image is between 1.66:1 - 1.33:1, but anything lower will be quite hard to see on the 3DS screen (I've learned from my second try). Anything higher then 1.66:1 though is a lot easier, although I wouldn't try to go further then 2:1, as then the letterboxing will take it's toll. Two: there is something that I can work with in terms of depth in the image. For example, this image was an excellent choice because I have a total of four layers: The front guy, the bottom guy, the top on the ground and the background. Unlike this image in which I can't really do anything with depth. I can still do it, but it won't matter much, it would be waste of the effort honestly. Three: it's not censored beyond usage. Self explanatory I assume. Once I have the image(s) I want to convert I open them up in Photoshop, I copy one of them as a base of one perspective, and use the copy to separate the characters from the background, but I do keep everything I cut for later. After the characters are separated from the background, I cut the characters into pieces all for separate layers (front, middle back). Once every piece has been cut for each separate layer, I (sometimes) make a couple of extra maps for each layer: one for the foreground, the middle ground and the background. This isn't necessary, but it's useful to keep the (many) layers ordered. Once I have everything separated from each other, orderd in separate maps and made sure there is an extra .PSD saved in case I may screw up. I shift the layers towards the left or the right (depending how the base image looks), and the further the layer has to be, the more I shift it (example front layer 2 pixels, second layer 7 pixels, and background 10 pixels). Well naturally this will cause holes in the image, which I fill them up on separate layers, I don't draw on the existing once just in-case. After it's done, I save the images (the original and the edited one) as.jpg once everything is filled up and open a small program called: StereoPhoto Maker. Click and drag both files into the program and click the Anaglyph button, doesn't matter if it's the Black and white, or the one with color (although for testing I use black and white). I put on my "awesome "3D glasses and switch the images if the depth perception doesn't work properly (front in the back..? Flip the image and it's solved!). If the depth works the image looks very, very 2D-ish with depth. This is because all the layers are still pretty much identical. After that in Photoshop I: skew, distort, wrap or whatever the separate layers to make the image appear more 3 dimensional although not always does it work perfectly. This is the point where I very often save my progress as a .jpg and check again if the image is improving in terms of depth using StereoPhoto Maker. I keep doing this until I am satisfied with the end result, and if I am I save it as a .MPO, upload that to a site and use my 3DS to see if it works like it should (as Anaglyph and "real" 3D sometimes differ), if it's good even on my 3DS, I upload the image as a .jpg and as a Anaglyphic image and upload them here. It's very time consuming and very confusing at times. Here is an image (url is dead) of layers of the feet one in the image above. And you shouldn't forget that I did this one twice (29 layers * 2) due to not entirely being satisfied with using the original perspective... I seriously do not recommend anyone to try it, and if you want to try it, try creating multiple images before starting to upload . My first couple of attempts have some serious problems in the conversions and layering, and I'm still learning to improve and perfecting even after 25 conversions. So that's the entire story really... Like I said, a long story, and I hope people aren't scared off. But like I said, it's quite a bit of work, and it doesn't always pay off. I like to do it because it's relevant to my interest (3D modelling), but if you just like to see 3D images but don't have more "feelings" for it. Then seriously don't try it ;) |
Due to some problems that I had with the second image (speedo) I decided to drop that one and replace it with the follwing two. I have the other three almost finished, but my shoulder is aching and I can't spent to much time on converting them without it starting to hurt. So expect the first image to be uploaded after the weekend, although I may be able to upload a improved version of : "3DS Converted 017".
So guess that's the update for now :p |
So I wrote an almost 750 word/2.250 character long, mini tutorial on how to convert a 2D image into 3D by: cutting the image into multiple layers, shifting, skewing, distorting and whatelse the different layers.
And I even provided a couple of examples, and still a 2D image get's uploaded. And there isn't an anaglyphic image, so if people at home want to see it, they still can't. Like I commented on the image page: Quote:
At the moment I have a couple of conversions laying waiting to be uploaded, but first I'm awaiting an anaglyph picture to be uploaded of the new image that has been added, so that the page stays nice and clean with one image always twice next to eachother, rather then on the row below it :) |
So I made a very very quick conversion of the image K.K.617 had uploaded because he had uploaded a flat image and to keep the page layout ordered properly. I uploaded it and you can see it here. I've also uploaded two new images, one from Kowmeiism and another one featuring four different Link's, based on Super Smash Bros. Brawl which can be seen here.
Hope you like them, and please give some feedback on the conversions. I could use it as like I mentioned before, they are not always perfect ;) |
Tomorrow or the day after that, it depends on how my day will look like, I will be uploading a new conversion. It's the one with the guy hanging on chains from my first post, I just finished up the final touches on the conversion and it's seems to work perfect, with exception of the 3D logo on the top of the screen. But that's a problem that the 3DS causes, not the conversion...

Hey! Great work on the conversions!
but.... For those of us who don't have a 3ds (me) I found a way to view your 3d images on the pc using standard red/cyan glasses :) All you need is: An nVidia Card Windows 7 or Higher nVidia 3D Stereo setting on, set to "Discover Glasses" A Simple rename After you download the .jpg image or whatever file type you get, just rename the extension to .mpo nVidia automatically will open the 3d image in its 3d image viewer :) |
Well that's possible, or you just use the Anaglyph image I also upload. I thought that would be more convenient for most people... Anyways, I uploaded the next one viewable 3DS Conversion 022 and Anaglyph Conversion 02...
|
Uploaded a new conversion, I'm sortoff out of images that I want to converted so I won't be uploading the upcoming while. But no worries I will be making more once I have multiple images :)
Edit: Ow yeah before I forget, if you don't like a slight touch (or overdose honestly) of Shota, don't check out the image. Although I myself are not really a Hard Shota person (soft shota is nice though), I quite liked this one image enough to do... So I hope you enjoy! :) |
Uploaded a new Image, toke a while and next one once again will be taking another while. But hopefully you will like it :)

I think they're great. Keep up the good work ^_^ Much appreciated!

Hello hello after a long time!
Been taking a break after much trouble and currently putting my life back on the tracks, and started working on another 3D conversion. It's one where I'm really putting time and effort in, so no more 2D layers in a 3D space. I'm going the extra miles for this one and am really trying to give it a more 3 dimensional feel: legs, chests, buts, arms, towels, all have been touched upon to make it feel more "real". I also have a 3D phone these days, and will write a quick tutorial on how to watch the 3D images on the HTC EVO 3D and on the LG Optimus 3D. Don't expect the new image any day however, I feel like I should really take my time on this one and it's already taken 4 hours, which is probably more then I put in any other the other images! :) |
So I'm finishing the last image up and it will be ready to be uploaded shortly, for everyone that enjoys these things.
RobM has removed the images and I uploaded the new image, so yeah that's about it :p |
I updated the conversion of the kids in the schoolroom, it's uncropped this time (no cutting on the top and buttom) and some errors were removed. I edited alot, this time it's not a couple of flat layers with some depth, this time I edited as much as I could to improve the depth on each layer for more natural feeling. Enjoy!
Edit: Before I forget a brand new conversion added, been going back to school so I was in the mood to do something again... |
Uploaded a new Mentaiko image, it's still early WIP but it's been a while since the last upload. School is quite demanding on my time do progress has been extremely slow but that's where my future lies so that's what goes in the first place.
Also there are three images uploaded in the 3D section, one of the three is incorrectly placed and the other two are 3D models which, as far as I know, shouldn't be on this site, so if a mod could check that out :) Edit: Updated the new WIP conversions, should be uploaded in couple of minutes :) Edit again: The two updated images are up, still far from done, but I guess about 50% is done. Still need to do the character with the nudy mag in the background and then I will start to fill up the holes, and then I will do some final tweaking. Should take about another week if I manage to find the time, otherwise it'll take about two to three. The current update is mostly on the guy in the middle, with an ever so slight tweak on the guy on the right on the front. Right Character: Added some slight depth to the penis and glans. Center character: Added depth to the table, the head, face, shirt, pants/legs, belt, underwear, penis, glans and balls. I would like to point out that the depth is intentional "little", this due to working better for depth perception to my eyes and it just simply looks more natural if I work with how the image was drawn instead of having to redraw alot and force alot of depth to it :) Anyways: Real3D - Anaglyph :) |
I would have to get on my 3DS to check out the images you posted, and I will do so at a latter time to let you know what I think of them, but I have already checked out (older) images before, and they look great. Great work. I will let you know what I think of the two you uploaded in the post previous to this one.
Might I ask how you do this? I wouldn't mind knowning. |
