Posting or sending stories for proofread?

Good morning,

I joined a couple of days ago figuring I'd try to add my own little contribution. I've got two yaoi/tentacle themed stories that I wrote a while ago trying to mix up my writing.

I'd like proofreaders and/or ideas on how to improve the stories to more suit the yaoi theme. Also I have the simple question of "where" I should post them after they're edited?

Thanks,
Corrupt

We currently have no "proofreading" section. All stories, once published, are there to stay unless deleted by a moderator. (Keep in mind, though, that you can always go back and edit the stories you've submitted.)

If you want a proofreader for grammatical errors, content, etc., I suggest you find a good friend or someone who's interested in your work to do it. You could e-mail them the story and they could reply with their advice. Once stories are submitted here, they're reviewed by me to make sure they contain no explicitly unacceptable material - such as child pornography scenes etc. - and then approved. I do not proofread for grammar and I don't correspond with authors unless it's about something negative in their story. I just don't have the time to be so connected with each and every author. Sorry about that :(

You could try posting in another Forum asking for ideas or hints, or even for someone to proofread. As for obtaining a "yaoi theme"...why not try reading some of the other stories or browsing through our galleries to get the picture of what's popular and common around here.

Once you're ready for submission, go to the Fiction Section and hit Submit. Copy/Paste/Type in your story and submit! I'll read it beforehand and, if approved, add it to our library. Please take note of which genre you'd like to submit your work to within the Fiction Section. Original Works is for stories you've written all by yourself with no outside characters, plot lines, etc. FanFiction is for stories you've written that do contain characters from outside sources or other outside information, plots, etc. The Communal Section is a hodgepodge of all different types. We're trying to phase out the C.S. and sort all stories into either O.W. or F.F.

Hope this helps!

Chance

Proofreading works best on a small scale, with trusted individuals. Proofreading when done by dozens of people often - especially strangers - can lead to people trying to change the story, over-correcting grammar when its fine, sometimes even suggesting plot changes. Such changes often only make the story better for them, not you.

Sorry that this is a little bit late. Saw this thread some time ago but only felt the need to answer it now, though the reason escapes me.

Having written fiction for quite some time I suppose the most popular thing to do has been to open a poll/suggestion forum if you want it to be "more yaoi" as you've mentioned. Generally fiction writers call for ideas through the reviews but seeing you haven't posted your fics yet you might want to open a thread for discussion?

I personally wouldn't mind proofreading for grammar, though I only have a basic grasp compared to some of the other members who probably studied it in greater detail since vocabulary always seems to be the order of the day here in Asia. But editing-wise I'm willing if you'd just drop me a PM of your fic.

I'm guessing if you'd like to find more yaoi-themed fics, you should search lj (livejournal) since there are tons there. Reading does help the writing. Reading the bad fics tells you what not, while reading the good ones tells you what to. That is, if you can tell the difference :P

がんばって (Press on) in your writing conquest!
