Don smiled a bit hearing that Alan was eager to learn about the calf, it was a good sign to have a worker that was willing to learn. "It's been almost a week since he last let me milk him." he explained as they walked out of the house and started to head towards the barn. "As far as feeding him, he'll try to get sweets, like boy or animal would. The vegetables he likes are carrots and snap peas, he loves them, especially if you give him ranch dressing as dip but I try not to spoil him like that too often. Those things are for days when he's been particularly good. Same with chocolate but if you want to give him some it's a small amount, two chocolate chip cookies or a small glass of chocolate milk. Like animals, chocolate doesn't sit well with his stomach so give him too much and you'll have a sick hybrid on your hands and sour milk for a week." he explained as they walked across the rather large lawn to where the bar was.

When they got there, Don opened the door and walked inside. It was empty although there were lots of stalls. The only current resident was Cal who was still reading his book. Sometimes the stalls would have sick or pregnant animals in them but for the time being the horses and cows that Don had were out in the fields. "As for fruit, you'll have no problem getting him to eat that and he can have yogurt as dip every time, yogurt is healthy for the boy." He said then stopped at Cal's stall, the calf still trying to read and ignore the two men.

"How you feeling today?" Don asked.

"Stiff, sore, and like I'm going to burst." Cal said shutting his book with a loud thump.

"Well I have someone here that might be able to help with that. Will you let him try?"

Cal looked Alan up and down as much as he could from where he was sitting. "He's a little short isn't he?" He asked.

"Cal, be nice. This is Alan, at least let him have a look." Don said and with a heavy sigh, Cal nodded.

"Fine, but only because you want me to."

"Give him his snack and he'll behave." Don said and patten Alan's shoulder. "I'll be back, got a horse to look at, holler if you need help."
