Fifteen minutes. It seemed like a good enough distance away from school. He couldn't believe it, but school was starting to look like more of a safe haven right now. He might actually have to spend all day there. Whoever was following him would never be able to spy on him when he was with hundreds of other students. When Quin told him about his neighbours, Jonas felt a wave of relief wash over him. He was thankful that they weren't invasive. The last thing he needed was for more people to try and snoop him out. Jonas turned around and looked through the window one last time just to make sure no one was following them. It seemed alright so far.
When Casey answered him, Jonas couldn't help but let out a heavy sigh. It was a simple question. "If you don't want to give me specifics, that's fine. The only reason I wanted to know was..." Jonas tried to word the rest of his sentence in a way that wouldn't panic the teens. "Look, the man I sent you a picture of is not from here. That means he was sent here to look for me. If there are people looking for me, and have enough resources to know that I ended up in this quiet little town...I don't want to know what else they'd be able to find out. If this man, if he works for some sort of group, the last thing I want is them threatening your families to get information on me."
And for the first time in centuries, Jonas felt scared and guilty. "I really don't want to fuck you two over, but I had to drag you into this. If these people find out you're associating with me, something tells me you'd be in great danger. I would never, ever endanger the life of an innocent mortal, but I had to. If these people find me...it's not my own fate that I'm worried about. It's the fate of my people." He told them. He didn't want to tell them right now why he was being so cryptic, but he needed to tell them the truth.
"Please get to your house quickly. The quicker you two know about me, the better off we'll all be.".
