Two centuries now, since the first expeditions into the vast, uncharted regions of the globe, had come across a new civilization, unheard of before. Very strange creatures indeed, as they seemed to be one of the many missing links in the evolution of man kind. Its representatives resembled humans in much of their appearance, and behavior, but they also possessed a few traits which humans had lost, during their development as a race, namely hightened senses, increased visual acuity, stamina, strength. One of the early expedition leaders noted in his memoires, that these strange creatures had fox like ears, and a tail, and yet, they were very inteligent, and had a very organized social structure. But not everyone shared his visions, for man usually despises and fears what he cannot come to understand. So, the first expeditions were folowed by an invading force, which took the kitsuens by surprise, occupying their lands, and taking their kind as spoils of war.
O course the kitsunes faught back, but they were simply no match for the overwhelming armies, sent by the Emperor, to seize their lands and riches, and turn them into slaves. Eventually they were defeated, and their populations was assimilated. Even so, they never stopped fighting for their rights, and freedom. The later Emperors opted for a more permissive policy, regarding the treatment of kitsunes, granting them a few rights. However, many people didn’t like that, as kitsunes were nothing more than savage unevolved creatures to them, and animals such as them selves had no rights.
Two centuries filled with confict and turmoil, in which time, kitsunes grew to receive more and more rights. That was until the new Emperor came to the throne, and started taking their rights away. What a few wse rulers had managed to achieve in two centuries, he had undone in less than a few years. Kitsunes became slaves once more, they were forbidden to own land or houses, they were forced to work on people’s farms, and some, more excentric, even used them in their bedchambers. The Emperor also ordered for their settlements to be destroyed, and the inhabitants imprisoned. And the kitsune rose again, to fight their opressors, but were defeated. Those who managed to escape took shelter in the woods, as far away from human dwellings as possible. They’d become rogues, criminals, in the eyes of most humans, which had to be stopped at all costs…
