Pups and Todds/vixen are the youngest of the group.
Pups are the youngest trainees considered to be the babies just starting out. Pups are generally brought in to the clan from being bartered out from slave traders in town, poor families, rarely spoils of war, and through diplomatic agreements at times. It's common to find that most generally don't have blood relatives that they know of, having been detached from their roots.
Toods/vixen are the older ones usually in their teens who may be looking forward to starting on their first few missions. Still green but have more combat knowledge under their belt.
Pups todds and vixen are taken in by den-mothers, pack-leaders and rarely alphas. Care takers who be come like parental masters and strive to teach them their new way of life.
This clan works through a hierarchy. The top most is composed of Seniors/Aphas making up the council. Generally the wisest and most experienced and seasoned of the clan. Under them comes the teachers, adults, and medical. And after the todds/vixen or the older teens, and finally the pups, or the younger children. With age comes privileges and responsibility. Girls and boys are kept in separate sleeping arrangements.
Traditions Ceremonies and Clan Rules
Kohai are governed by rules which are strict, but fair.
A child or adolescent will remain a kohai until they have proven themselves on a mission. Once a kohai turns fourteen, they will be eligible for said mission. There will be a ceremony to commemorate them for missions in which they must undergo what is called The Night of Foxes.
The Night of Foxes is where a kohai walks through the garden and building after 48 hours of sleep deprivation and is randomly assaulted by seniors who hide in the shadows. If they can defeat four of the five seniors, they will be eligible for missions.
However, that does not make THEM a senior. That is something else entirely.
Also, kohai must be approved by their caretaker to partake in the The Night of Foxes.
As a sempai, you have more privileges. You will be considered an adult in the eyes of the clan, and be taken on more missions, and be allowed to eat with the adults instead of just your sensei, and if you are exceptional (think of Zenko), you may be given your own team of kohai to train. However, you are still expected to be loyal to those ahead of you, such as a sempai who was promoted before you, or your sensei. A sempai cannot punish you, but your sensei CAN, as you are still his/her responsibility.
Kohai will be expected to under go sessions covering the ninja juhakkei during the day light hours.
If Kohai they have difficulty learning, they will be given assistance in their gray areas. However, any sign of intentionally avoiding training or skipping out on classes will be punished. Good training and hard work will be rewarded with time off later in the day for playing with other kohai, walking in the gardens and yards, or doing what suits their fancy (it must be within reason).
Older kohai will be granted certain privileges, such as being able to learn higher techniques, being able to stay up later, being allowed to accompany seniors into town visits, and dining with adults. However, they will also be expected to care for and mentor the younger ones, and if they abuse their privileges or the younger kohai's trust, then their privileges will be revoked. If a kohai sees another kohai (or anybody) mistreating another, they are obligated to report it. If they solve it with their fists, both parties will be punished.
