"O-okay, Kane" Josh replied with uncertainty. Hearing Kane's parents arguing upset him too as he was used to hearing his parents arguing because of unfaithfulness in their marriage. Josh curled up tightly into a ball, wrapping the bed cover over himself in a futile bid to feel safer.

"Oh look it's the waste of space!" he heard from downstairs as the shouting continued and a slanging match ensued.

"He isn't a waste of space..." Josh whispered, wishing that he had the courage (and permission) to shout and scream it at Kane's parents.

Kane walked up and punched his so-called-fathers face "you piss me off" that earned him a punch. He got punched back as his mother slapped him "have some manners bitch" Kane cussed his parents out "you don't even deserve to be here you worthless bitches. Your not even parents" Kane walked up the stairs and slammed the door behind him

Josh flinched as Kane slammed the door and replied worridly "But where will we go? he asked nervously, not wanting to brave the nighttime streets. Josh quickly threw his clothes back on, whn he noticed a red hand mark across Kane's face. He gently rose his hand to caress Kane's face and he looked into the older boy's eyes before slowly hugging him - partly because Josh was scared and partly because he wanted somehow to comfort Kane.

Josh pretended to think for a while about where to go, although he knew exactly where they could stay: at his house. Recalling how inquisitive he was about the absence of Kane's parents, however, he was afraid Kane would also ask where his parents where.

In actuality, Josh's mother had left home a few months ago after she found out her husband had a mistress, and his father wasn't at the family home as he was spending a week with his tart and her kids. Pushing the thought to the back of his head, Josh nodded begrudgingly "Yeah.. We can go to my parents' house" he murmured as Kane led him out the bedroom.

"Your parents..." Josh added slightly fearful "They won't hit me too will they?"

Josh held on to Kane's hand tightly, with his other hand roped around Kane's upper arm - if anyone could protect Joshua, it would be Kane, and he did keep Josh safe from his father's ranting and raving, although Josh did shriek in fear as Kane's fist flew towards his dad.

Leaving the house, Josh and Kane walked down the road briskly, their pace slowing the further away from the house they got. Josh hugged closely against Kane as the nighttime air chilled his body. He piped up, uncertainly "Kane? Am... Am I just your bitch?
