An Unlikely Apprentice (Private)

Link Midora trudged up the dirt path, making his way to the stone tower in the distance. He'd heard that the person who lived there was one of the best magic instructors around; if anyone asked, he'd say that he was excited, but deep down, he was relatively nervous. Just how would this whole thing turn out? Would his teacher be friendly or strict? Would Link excel at the spells he wanted to learn, or fail miserably? Such questions turned over in his mind, and he tried to keep a strong expression despite it all.

A young man of sixteen, of average height, pale complexion, and lanky build, whose obsession with a legendary hero in the area had driven him to change his name to match, Link was a hotheaded boy who had a tendency to act before thinking and a very high opinion of himself. His hair was shoulder-length, straight, and dyed a vibrant lime green; it got him noticed more often. He had come dressed in a black robe, hooded and not too flowing, with more casual clothes underneath.

Once he reached the ornate doors of the tower, Link pushed one open without knocking, eager to see what lay in store for him inside.

[The Frozen Prince]

On the edge of a quiet, a stone tower loomed. Ivy grew up the side of the decaying building, adding to it's overall image. The tower seemed rather small to be home to a magician, who needed space to practice his magic. The two itself was home to a very powerful magician. Many people feared him and wanted them to train their children but the mage named Farrell rarely took students on, until he senses the magically capabilities of a boy, who liked to call himself Link.

Farrell watched as Link walked into the house. His horrible green hair made him noticeable... too noticeable, especially in times like this. Dark forces were stirring and lately, there seemed to be many magicians vanishing. Farrell stood at the doorway as link walked in.

"The first we need to do is get rid of that hair." Farrell said in a town that was strong, yet kind as he looked down at link. Farrell was tall, around 6 foot. His jet black hair was of an average length and his face was covered in stuble. His piercing green eyes drew lot of people's attention.

Link's first instinct was to bark out an insult in return; he managed to bite his tongue and force the thought back, but only barely. Instead, he forced a smirk onto his face, shoved his hands in the deep pockets of his robe, and asked, "Why? What's wrong with my hair? Afraid I'm going to upstage you?" His smirk turned genuine for a fleeting moment until he realized that his cocky attitude would get him turned away at this rate. Quickly, he added the first thing that came to mind. "Uh, I mean...Y-You're Farrell, right? Thanks for, uh, agreeing to teach me and all."

"And I already regret taking you on." Farrell replied in a cool and strong tone.

"You don't know anything about magic do you? Do you think magic is just for tricks and to get girls and to show off? This is a serious matter Link. You are being trained to protect this town but I don't know if you are up for it. You will be put under a trail run to see if you are serious enough about this." He said, his dark exterior coming across extremely cold.

Link grinned sheepishly and, swallowing his pride, performed his best respectful bow. "Sorry for not taking things seriously," he said, doing his very best not to make it sound forced. Apologies felt so foreign to him, but he absolutely refused to mess this up. He'd come too far to be sent home packing now. "Whaddaya want me to do? Anything, just name it. I promise I'll listen."
