[Advice/Guide] DO's and DON'Ts of Roleplay
DO:
- Remember you are hear to have fun.
Fun and enjoyment is the core of roleplaying, this is a collaboration between two or more people for fun. Enjoy yourself and help your partner to enjoy themselves too!
- Use proper English, grammar and spelling.
This isn't an attack on those who can't spell, or on non-native English speakers. Its purely for understanding. Your partner needs to understand you as best they can, and if they can't understand your post easily, the fun may be affected.
Everyone knows that Learning is different, don't worry if you are still practicising the language, just do your best!
- Use images (but not photos!) to help illustrate your points.
You can embed and attach images to your posts. Make use of this - especially in character bios.
Don't overuse it during an RP, but at the start of an RP it can be great for setting the tone.
- Use text fonts, sizes, styles and effects to improve your posts
But Don't get carried away.
See: #############
for information and help.
- Use OOC messages and the discussion threads to discuss the RP with your partner as you go. Use PMs and VMs as well.
There are plenty of ways to communicate with your partner - especially the new OOC Tags.
- Make full use of the Character Bios Forum and the Roleplayer Resume Forum to recruit people, to keep them up-to-date with the RPs you are doing, the RPs you want to do and the original characters/worlds that you have to play with.
These forums can be powerful networking tools to find new people to RP with and RPs you are interested in doing!
DON'T:
- Ruin the fun of others
We're all here to have fun, take it easy and don't interfere with others.
- Use the Quote function in Roleplays
We know what we said, don't use Quoteboxes, its distracted and not needed!
- Get involved with Rulebreaking.
If you see rulebreaking, don't get involved: Tell the roleplay moderators, the site admins or press the REPORT button and let people know its happening.
- Take control of other peoples characters in an RP, or 'God-Mode' with your partner.
Let things expand at their own pace, you are responsible for your part and your partner with theirs - you are collaborating and working together, not against one-another. Use OOC comments and discussion threads to raise issues.
- Use bad grammar and spelling
Your posts need to be understanding. Not an attack on non-native speakers - but you must be understandable.
- Speed Posting
Don't post too fast for replies and wonder why your partner can't keep up. Make it the best RP you can, not the fastest. And definately do NOT complain to your partners that they are not posting fast enough - people post at the best rate they can depending on their schedules and activities - don't rush others, its ban manners and some will find it rude!
