He was losing..! This could not be happening. Matt bit down on his tongue slightly and hunched in a bit, putting his all into the game. He whipped through the stage's final challenge and joined Mello on the last level.

He didn't bother to look anywhere but at his own section of the screen. This was it. The determining moment. If he didn't focus and catch Mello up to at least tie with him then all was lost. His games were on the line and he simply HAD to win.

This was getting intense, but Mello didn't mind intense. He didn't even mind (much) the idea of losing chocolate for three days. What he WOULD mind would be losing, because even if Near wasn't watching, he would certainly hear about it, and there was no way he would allow that to happen.

The final puzzle was on the screen and Mello worked at it intently, chewing on his lower lip. This was worrisome. He already knew the final word answer, but in an effort to be more difficult, the game was throwing incorrect words across the screen to get in the way of entering it in the right space, and they had to use the virtual eraser to knock them away. It was more battle-game oriented now, and that put him at a disadvantage.

Matt intently battled off the incorrect jumbles of letters, working methodically to get the correct word in place. He lightly flicked his tongue across his upper lip, concentrating on the final spaces.

It was so close...Matt punched in a few buttons and then blinked as the triumphant theme for completion blared out of the speakers. He wasn't entirely certain yet if it was music signaling his victory or Mello's. Cautiously he glanced at his score number and then over at Mello.

"Well?"

For a moment, Mello wasn't sure he could let go of the controller; he was gripping it that tightly.

"I won," he said, a hint of surprise in his tone that he quickly tried to cover with his usual bravado, "of course." He glanced behind him to see if Near was close by and had witnessed his victory, but apparently, the blonde wasn't in the room. Mello ground his teeth together in frustration.

"Looks like you're out video games for three days," he snapped a little more harshly than he'd meant to. He recovered himself and added, "I'll tell you what, though; I'll do my best to keep you entertained instead. I'll come up with all kinds of fun stuff we can do. How's that sound?" His blue eyes met Matt's through the goggles and he gave him a smile that was almost apologetic.

Matt couldn't control his expression, the mother of all pouts was settled firmly on his lips and he was debating between being shocked and outraged at the outcome of the game.

After listening to Mello gloat and then looking at his semi apologetic grin he finally muttered just low enough for the blond to hear, "You only won because it was a stupid word game."

He sighed, frowned at the game system and then shook his head, letting it go for now. Mello HAD promised to keep him entertained..somehow.

"I guess...if we have stuff to do..it'll be all right..it was my idea anyway." He chewed on his lower lip thoughtfully. Mello..coming up with activities for the pair of them to do...for three days..three days without his psp, without his game boy, without his game boy advance, without the ps3 or the game cube or the x box or the n64 or even the ancient nes! Matt felt a sudden surge of panic grip him. He got up in a whirl of black and white and red and dashed from the room.

Maybe if he was quick he could hide just..ONE system..and a game..for..private time..maybe..

Mello blinked, staring at the doorway through which Matt had just vanished. What the hell happened? He got to his feet and opened a fresh chocolate bar, poised to bite it. He hesitated.

Was it really fair of him to indulge in his own habit when Matt would be denied his? Well, yes, after all, Matt lost. But still, for some reason, Mello felt guilty. It probably wouldn't KILL him to go without chocolate for three days -- would it?

Maybe. But he could at least try, just to be supportive. He could be a good guy for once; Matt would appreciate it.

If he could ever find him again. "Hey, Matt!" he called out, wrapping the chocolate back up and stuffing it in his pocket, running out of the room.

Matt could be surprisingly agile, much in contrast to the laid back careless attitude he often gave off. He all ready had every console and game in his room gathered together in a little pile on the bed...well covering most of the bed really..and was staring down at the entire collection thoughtfully.

"I guess if I did come up with the idea..I should stick to it. I mean after all, hiding my games and trying to sneak off to play them wouldn't be right. A cheat code is one thing but cheating on Mello is completely different. So...I'll stick to it."

He frowned slightly, giving his Mario Kart Double Dash and Super Smash Bros. Brawl games a guilty look. "It won't be for long, don't worry. We'll kick Bowser's ass again real soon."

"Hey, there you are." Mello sauntered into the room and leaned back against the desk, eyeing the games on the bed. He felt that guilty twinge again and pushed it down, steeling his own resolve.

"Listen," he said, "I've decided not to make you suffer alone. I can give up chocolate for as long as you're giving up the games." He shrugged and looked away. "I know it makes no sense, but these things are always easier in support groups, right?"

Matt stared at Mello through his goggles for a short while, then slowly broke into a wide grin. "Yeah I guess they are. Thanks Mello."

He blinked a bit and shuffled over to stand near to the other youth. Silence reigned supreme for a solid five minutes before he finally tilted his head back and sighed softly.

"What do we do now? It's sorta boring just standing here."

Matt was leaving it up to Mello to come up with an idea, after all he HAD promised to keep Matt entertained!

Mello tilted his head back thoughtfully. "How would you feel about skipping out of here for the rest of the day? We could have a lot more fun in the city, and if we're back in time for the bedtime bell, maybe Roger won't even notice we're gone. What do you say?" He looked over at Matt, grinning mischievously.
