Sam returned, victoriously, proudly waving his library card around, like a deadly weapon. Unfortunately there was nobody around to witness his triumphant march. The library seemed pretty much deserted at that hour. Leave it to him to be the last one in everything. Not that he was stupid. Au contraire, he was quite a smart kid, but he was far too lazy.

He walked up to the reception, politely greeted the librarian, and asked her where he might find the books he needed for his project. The woman asked for his card, which he was more than willing to hand over, then gave him directions on how to reach the science section, because it was a science project he had to do, go figure. He said thank you, then went on his way strolling along the impressive shelves, filled from top to bottom, with all sorts of books. The woman said to take left, after the third shelf, then go right, and he followed those instructions to the letter.

Little did he expect to stumble across a most unusual scene, the very instant he reached the science section.
