Simon was panicking. He suddenly got a horrible feeling in his gut, a feeling that told him that Naoki was in trouble. He had no idea where to look. He went in random directions, something he thought that Naoki would do just to be curious and look around, but to no avail. He could normally pick up on scents, but he couldn't catch a whiff of the neko anywhere. Instead, he just smelled forest, and he couldn't find a trail.

Naoki was running as fast as he could but he still heard the strange creature following him. And then he bumped on something. He me owed falling on the ground, ready to defend himself with everything he got.
"And who may you be? And what a small thing like you are doing alone in the woods?", asked the deep, old voice.
Of course Naoki needed to see who was speaking so he glanced that way. And jaw almost dropped as he saw the big creature. He tried to run but the roots of the creature wrapped around him.
"Now, now.. don't be hasty little one.. I don't think you want to meet my pet once again?", asked the monster. "Now let me hear you answer my previous question", said the monster, the roots and such squeezing Naoki tighter and making him whimper softly.
"B-but who are you?", asked Naoki, looking down and shuddering seeing the thing from before doing circles under him.
"I am a creature of this forest. We like to call ourselfs viamai. Most aren't as smart as me though..
Naoki didn't know that but the thing that was on the ground was long ago a human. Viamai's were known to catch people, make them slaves to the sequel pleasure and then change into that to make those creatures, hagi, and make them gather next preys. It was so because viamai were too big and slow to do the hunting thenselfs.

Simon finally transformed himself into the only animal he believed would help him in this situation, a wolf. A canine breed with a good sense of smell and fast legs that could get him to the neko fast. Immediately, he was introduced to many smells, many things he could hear, different sight, but most importantly he finally picked up on a familiar scent. A floral scent. That was Naoki's scent. He immediately dashed across the forest floor to head in the neko's direction.

"So now answer my question. What a magically modified creature like you are doing so deep in the woods? And that energy I feel on you.. It's somewhat familiar..", said the old viamai while his roots went all around Naoki's body.
The neko was unable to fight it since he was trapped by the roots. Knowing all he could hope was preying that Simon would find him before anything worse would happen he decided to answer Viamai's questions.

Simon appeared in no time. Immediately, he shifted in mid-leap back into his human form and his magic countered against the Viamai's. His own roots rose from the ground and forced her back several feet and disoriented the creature long enough for him to burn her roots with a green, magical flame that did no harm to neko. Without saying a word, he gathered Naoki into his arms and sped off with the neko in his arms, tightly held against him.

Naoki was so, so glad when he saw those black flames. Somehow he knew it was Simon. Gathered into those warm arms he hid his face into other's, some tears welling up in his eyes. Trembling in shock he stayed still.

Simon remained silent as he sped off with Naoki still tightly held in his arms. He wasn't really thinking, just focusing on getting as far away from the Viamai's territory as possible and getting back to the cave where he finally placed Naoki on his feet only to move away to search about the entrance to the cave to make sure that they were not followed.

Some part of the way back they were indeed followed and by the sounds of it all it seemed there was more creatures. Though after a while it seemed they lost their tails. Naoki was still too shocked to react in any way.

Simon didn't relax until after he was sure that they were in the clear. He finally turned to Naoki who was still in a daze of what had just happened. He slowly approached the neko, trying not to show the fact that he was angry, and he roughly ran a hand into those blonde locks only to clench down on a handful of Naoki's hair. Once again he wondered if this was true anger or if he was just afraid from almost losing Naoki...again. This neko's curiosity was going to be the end of the Mage before old age would ever catch up to him. He gave Naoki's hair a gentle yank. "How many times...must I tell you...to not do things on your own accord...before you get it...?" Simon asked in a soft voice, not even hiding his anger anymore.

Naoki blinked in surprise at what the mage done. Then his ears lowered and his arms slumped as the guilt kicked in. The new knew if not for Simon rescuing him he would end as a slave of that.. thing.
"I.. I'm sorry...", he said barely audibly.
