David hissed being smashed on the wall and cursed when his hits fell all on the empty space between Gary and him.
"Oh? Are you his new boyfriend? That slut always liked your type so it's nothing surprising. And Johnny boy did you tell your new boyfriend how much you like being tied up and fucked really hard? How much do you like your hole being tortured by a nice, hard cock?"
John just looked at him, white as a sheet of papper, not moving at all. He flinched as he heard some laughters behind his back.

Most people would've been judgemental, condescending and disgusted towards John, but not Gary. He was furious.

"That's what floats your boat, huh? Public humiliation of an innocent person makes you feel like a man, does it? Well surprise buddy, what you just said doesn't change my perception of John in the slightest. On the contrary, it makes me disgusted with you. You who takes pleasure in degrading others. Backfired, huh?"

He let go of David and wiped his mouth.

"This place is new and I'm not gonna ruin its reputation by beating you up in here."

He laughed a little.

"I'm not John's boyfriend. We barely know each other and I'm not gay. But whom he dates and what he prefers doing in bed is none of your godforsaken business!"

He shoved him against the wall again, before rounding on the onlookers who'd laughed at John.

"Neither is it any of yours! What kind of fucking upbringing do you pathetic jerks have? Standing around and laughing when someone's being abused?!"

David didn't care about the new place or not. He was furious that someone stopped his fun and insulted him in a public place so he was about to charge on Gary when the security guard showed up. When he saw the big man approaching him he glared at Gary and then run away.
With what he had said to the people from the accidental audience made things quiet down.
John was sitting there still like a statue, his eyes big from shock. He looked at Gary as if he saw him for the first time.

Gary sighed and palmed his own forehead wearily. "What a mood killer. All I wanted was a peaceful outing with good food. Sheesh."

He fetched their tray and set it on their table. He picked up John's food and arranged it in front of him. He patted him comfortingly on the shoulder.

"Sorry you had to have a run in with that jerk, John."

John sat there not moving for few more seconds and then shook his head.
"You are a really nice guy.. I.. Thank you", he said in a shaky voice, taking of his glasses and rubbing his eyes. "I'm sorry you must s-see that.. It.. I'm really sorry.."
He felt exhused all of a sudden and thought some alcohol and a good sleep would do him really good. Putting his glasses on he smiled at Gary faintly.
"So let's eat. Hope the food is still nice and hot.."
Despite he looked normal once again inside he was desperately trying to get a hold of his emotions. He felt sick still remembering what happened.

Gary was deeply upset at seeing John so distraught and shaken. He felt like rounding up David an beating him to a pulp.

"You're a brave guy, John," he said gently. "You stood your ground and tried to maintain your composure, even now. That isn't something many would be able to do."

He arranged John's pita bread, kebabs, milk shake and bhel puri in front of him.

"Don't you ever blame yourself for this sort of thing. Now go on, eat up and enjoy the food. I'm right here."

John looked on his food, shaking his head.
"I'm not brave. If I was I wouldn't need anyone to defend me while I sat petrified. And I must blame myself it happened because it wouldn't if I didn't know him.. But you're right.. let's leave it and enjoy our food", he said quietly.
He started from his pita bread and somehow this simple activity calmed him a bit.
"What do you like to do after work?", he asked all off a sudden, looking at Gary with his dark eyes.

Gary wasn't exactly sure how knowing David could be classified as john's fault, but then again, Gary was never the type to approve of pointless self flagellation. Anyway, he was very sorry for John. He picked up a spoon and started on the bhel puri, looking up at the question. John really did have nice dark eyes behind those glasses.

"Well, it depends. Sometimes I go hang in the bar and watch football on their big flat screen while enjoying my favourite drink. Sometimes I dial my brother, and if I really miss him, I go give him a surprise visit. Sometimes I just head straight home and surf the net for lots of stuff, the latest being new bachelor recipes. Or watch TV show reruns, or read some magazines. And sometimes I go out with buddies for a flick or something. What about you?"

"Me? I'm a boring guy. From time to time I like to go out but mostly I take a walks while listening to the music, read, play with my cats and spending time playing various games on my laptop or console. I like to invite my two friends then as we drink beer, talk and play. So here you have me - computer nerd with almost zero social live. Not really something you would call fun, hm?"
As John talked he seemed to relax more and more and color returned to his cheeks.
