Post Language help

I've been thinking about writing a (short) story for a while now, but the only problem is that I think I will be making a lot of grammar/spelling errors, mostly because English isn't my mother tongue...

Does anybody have any tips on using good and propper language?
Also, when does a grammar/spelling/vocabulary mistake (in your oppinion) get annoying?

Anyways, any advice on language usage is welcome

Thank you in advance~

If it is good enough for Word spellchecker it is good enough for me. But I could proofread for you, if you like to receive (hopefully constructive) criticism.

Spelling and grammar can be corrected quite easily with a good spell-checker.
Make sure your software has a UK or US-EN dictionary (one that will spot localised grammar) and you should be fairly okay.

When writing short-stories one of the first things I recomend to everyone - especially native english speakers - is to read a quick guide on writing and formatting a story in English.

The biggest mistake is writing like you are making a very big eMail or forum post, using things that readers will not commonly see. This can make something harder to read than if you spell a word wrongly.

Don't use extra spaces between lines.
Indent your paragraphs.
Use quote and speech marks correctly.
Line breaks between paragraph blocks.
Dialogue usually is in its own line.
Punctuate sentances to guide the rythym and pace.
Don't over-capitalise.
Use a font everyone can read.

So long as you do this, people can actually read without being stopped by spelling mistakes (Although obviously, correct as many as possible!) or derailed by the grammar.

Other than that, just try your hardest. The more you write and the more you read the more immersed you become in a language~
