Our Pokemon Adventure (For The Frozen Prince)

"Wake up Jay, it's the big day!" Jay heard cut through his dream, followed by his mother throwing the door open, shining the hallway light into his eyes. Roused from his sleep, Jay sat up and rubbed his eyes, still in a state of semi-consciousness, and opened the curtain to see... Nothing much but darkness.
"Mum! What the hell is that time? You've woken me up in the middle of the night!" he shouted in frustration as he lay his head back on the pillow only to hear his mother's shouted reply "It's 7 in the morning, dummy, Winter mornings are always dark!"
Jay then jumped form his bed and hastily jumped in the shower, washing as quickly as possible. He threw on some clothes excitedly and was ready to leave the house to go on his adventure within the hour. He grabbed his single Pokemon: a Vanillite he'd caught the previous day during a hailstorm and went to rush out the door, shouting a haphazard "Goodbye!" as he went to leave - only to be stopped by his mum.
"Yes Mum, what is it?" he groaned.
Jay's mother offered him a Poke ball and explained the contents "This is my Froslass, Jay, I was going to release it back into the wild once I'd stopped training last year, but I decided it would be better off with you... You may find that it won't be very obedient until you get some badges under your belt, so you'll be better off battling with your Vanillite until you get stronger!" Jay hugged his mother in thanks and went to leave, held back once more by his mum "Oh, just so I know you're safe, the woman next door has a kid too and he's also leaving on a Pokemon adventure today - and I know you don't know eachother, but I've already arranged that you two travel together and keep eachother safe".
Jay groaned, but agreed begrudgingly "I'll stop by before I leave" Exiting the house, Jay stepped onto the snow-caked streets of Pallet Town, slipped into next door's garden and knocked on the door, awaiting an answer.

Darkness surrounded Farrell as he dashed through the dark, snow covered forest. The calls of different Pokemon were heard all around him but one stood out, that of a Zangoose and it was coming closer and closer. Farrell knew the outcome before it even happened because he recalled this event every night in his dreams. The Zangoose's claws flashed a horrible purple colour and tore at his face, permanently scaring him, for everyone to see.
Farrell quickly sat up in bed, covered in a cold, unhealthy sweat. He has breathing heavily and could see his own breath as it hit off the cold air. His Mother rushed in, giving him that comforting look that he seemed to hate. She still saw him as a little baby who needed her protection but Farrell didn't want to be seen like. He was 16 and only now, she let him go off on his adventure.
"Are you ok sweety?" She asked the cold air hit her face as she opened the door.
"I just don't understand why you leave your window open at night, especially during Winter." She said as she rushed over the window and closed it, then opened up the curtains. It was still dark outside but Farrell felt comforted by the darkness now.
"Do you have everything packed? Clean underwear?" She asked as Farrell felt his face redden. Farrell never knew his father so it had always just been the two of them. He felt bad leaving her on her own but he knew that he had to do this.
"Yes Mum, I have everything." He said, smiling like he usually did when he talked to his comforting Mother.
"And your Pokemon? They are all ready to go? Even that poor little Deerling?" He looked over at two Pokeballs on his desk. One containing his trusty shiny Umbreon and the other was a Deerling he found in the Forest yesterday, separated from his parents during the blizzard.
"Yes Mum, we will both be fine." Farrell muttered as she smiled and left to prepare breakfast. After a quick shower, he packed his bag and put a large beanie on his head to keep himself warm.
"You will be fine won't you?" His Mother asked at breakfast, tears starting to form in your eyes.
"I'll be fine." Farrell replied, trying to sound less afraid than what he was.
"Well I have arranged for you to travel with the boy next door, just until you have enough Pokemon to keep you safe. Please travel with him, for me." She said, a single tear running down her cheek.
Farrell agreed and picked up his bag. As he turned, his Mother embraced him and held him tightly for at least 5 minutes.
"Stay safe my child." She said as she let him go.
Farrell opened the door just as someone started to knock. He didn't say anything as he looked at the boy in front of him.

I wonder what this boy will be like... Hopefully he won't be too much stronger than me, or maybe I'll be stronger than him! I hope we get along alright anyways, what with having to protect eachother.
Thoughts about this mystery boy whirred around in Jay's head, but he simply hoped that - over all else - the boy he was partnered with would be nice. Said thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the boy himself entering into the cold, snowy morning and closing the door quietly behind him. Jay examined the boy, intrigued by the scars on the side of his face, though not intrigued enough to ask about it for fear of causing offence.
"Er-Hi!" Jay said, greeting the mystery boy with a degree of awkwardness. Jay was never good with other people and prefered to do things alone, but figured that if he were going to be spending so much time with this other boy, he may as well make a bit of effort. "I'm Jay, I er... Live next door. Guess we're travelling together, huh? So what's your name?" he ventured, hoping that the boy would not notice his eyes occasionally trail to and linger over the scars on his face.

Farrell's face was met by a blast of refreshing cold air as he opened the door. He could his Mother crying behind him but didn't dare to look back as he knew it would make it so much harder for him to leave her. It was still dark outside but Farrell could see the outline of a boy walking towards him. The boy had brown hair but Farrell couldn't see his eyes properly. What he did notice though was that the boy was a lot taller than him. The boy's face seemed kind and welcoming but Farrell knew that once he wasn't needed, he would leave the boy and go travel on his own, with his Pokemon, like he always intended to do.
"Er-Hi" The boy said, sounding rather nervous, or was it more awkwardness? Farrell wasn't too sure but he could tell that the boy didn't feel comfortable. He introduced himself as Jay, the boy who lived next door but Farrell couldn't help notice his eyes occasionly drifiing to the scars on his face.
"I'm Farrell." He replied rather bluntly, forcing a smile that was clearly fake but it was better than keeping a stern look on his face wasn't it? Farrell was tempted to tell him to stop looking at his scars but he though it wouldn't be the best of starts for the pair, especially if they were meant to be traveling together.
"You ready to leave?" Farrell asked, pulling a scarf up around his mouth, only leaving his eyes visible.

Jay wasn't really dressed for Winter weather; donning an overshirt - thin by most standards - and jeans with, the only appropriate piece of winterwear - wellington boots - Jay was bound to look a bit strange considering the snowy backdrop behind him.
The awkwardness continued "Farrell! That's a nice name!" Jay replied, overenthusiastically, hoping to quickly forge a semblance of a friendship with this 'Farrell' boy to make their journey start smoother - he himself was guilty of the same falseness that Farrell showed in his smile.
Regardless, he was eager to get this journey started and was eager to make a friend of Farrell, just in case he did need protection at some point. He smiled as Farrell bulled his scarf off, and laughed "Nobody can tackled the cold like I can!" he said, hapilly, releasing his vanillite from it's Pokeball "So it should be no mistake that I love Ice-type Pokemon - what's your favourite type?" he ventured, trying to get to know the boy a bit more as he stepped out into the open expanse of the snowy town.

"Farrell! That's a nice name!" Jay replied happily, maybe a bit too happily but Farrell recognized that he was just trying to make things a little less awkward so he decided to not say anything and hey, at least he stopped looking at the scars.
He told Farrell his favourite type was Ice and through his Pokeball into the air.
The red and white sphere opened mid-air, releasing a single red beam that hit off the snow. A little Pokemon formed and it started to levitate. The Pokemon looked like an ice cream scoop placed on top of a cone but Farrell knew this Pokemon better as a Vanillite. Farrell never saw this Pokemon up close before and couldn't help but smile at the little Pokemon in front of him.
"So you're only going to catch Ice Pokemon or are they just your favourite?" Farrell said while reaching around his belt, picking up two Pokeballs.
"I don't really have a favourite type... but I always did like water Pokemon." He said while throwing the two balls into the air with just a flick of his wrist.
On the right hand side, a little blue and white deer formed but it seemed nervous or kind of scared while on the left side, a proud and strong looking black dog formed but instead of the usual yellow rings it had, this one had vibrant blue ones. These Pokemon were known as Deerling and Umbreon.
"Only problem is there isn't too many lakes around here." Farrell said with a little chuckle to himself.

Jay's Vanillite floated around in the cold snow, sometimes slipping out of sight and blending in with the sheer white of their surroundings - though it would always return to Jay's side as he started looking around for the little Pokemon. "Ice-types are my favourite, so I'll be making the most of the weather to catch lots of them - I do have a Froslass with me, but it's a bit too strong for me and it probably won't listen to anything I say" Jay laughed awkwardly.
As Farrell released his two Pokemon, Jay was instantly drawn to the Umbreon which had unusually shocking blue ringlets on its body "Th-that's a shiny Umbreon! How did you get that!?" he shouted, in awe of the rare shiny Umbreon stood before him; even Vanillite was floating around it chanting its name to express its intrigue.
Jay clenched his fists together "I have to get a shiny Pokemon like yours!" he vowed, leading the way forward with determination. There was already a competitive air growing between the two boys.

Umbreon looked up at the Vanillite dancing around him, chanting it's name to itself but Umbreon didn't seem to care too much, instead, it came to Farrell's side and sat down, keeping watch on the Deerling that was having fun prancing around in the snow, jumping in the air when it's feet got too cold.
"My parent's were both Pokemon breeders once. They were the best in the Unova region actually. When I was born, there were a lot of Eevee born too and they htached a year later. They kept the shiny one to give to me when they felt I was ready." Farrell said, staring down with love at his companion. "We used to travel a lot because people would pay good money for my parent's skills so Eevee was one of my only friends who could travel around with me." He finished as he looked up at the brown haired boy.
"Oh and good luck with trying to find one, they don't come around every day." He said, laughing to himself again, sensing the boy's jealousy.
"So where to first?" He asked as the snow started to fall heavier.

"They don't come around every day"
Jay gritted his teeth in jealousy, he wanted a shiny Pokemon so very badly, and as long as he didn't have one, he'd just feel inferior to Farrell. "Well maybe we'll get lucky - but if we see a shiny Pokemon, I call it! You already have one!" he replied playfully as he delved into his bag, retrieving a map and a few notes.
Occasionally brushing the snow off the map, he went through his carefully planned out journey "I've noted down which gyms specialise in what types..." he began, trying to sound as smart as possible "And the nearest would be Pewter, would be too dangerous to try cross the frozen-over sea to Cinnabar" he pondered. "Before then, though, I need to get a pokemon that'll be able to stand up to Brock's Rock-types, but I won't be able to go fishing anywhere because all the lakes will be frozen over" he sighed in distress and turned to Farrell "Guess we just... Walk until we stumble across something?" he suggested, his prior planning clearly useless.

"Well..." He said, looking down as his Deerling who came to stand beside Umbreon.
"Grass Pokemon would also work well against him but even if the lakes are frozen over, the water Pokemon have to go somewhere right?" He said, taking the map off of Jay. He pointed to various spots on the map.
"On our way here, I remember seeing a lake in Viridian forest. We could head there first since it's on the way and if not, you could always just catch a water Pokemon." Farrell pondered for a second on what he was going to do.
"I still don't know if I will challenge Gyms or not." He said as they started to walk off, away from Pallet town.
"Maybe contests?" He mused aloud as the snow slowly started to die off.
