Well I like to read the softcore, romantic ones myself though I do read the more hard ones on occasion.

Though when I do "read" those, I'm looking more for the butt shots than anything else

Softcore, but with Hardcore in it.
I like the plot to have good character development and seem like a realistic relationship before moving into the Hardcore zone. It makes the Hardcore much more satisfying. I don't particularly like smut or yaoi where the characters magically fall in love on the first 5 pages and then have sex with their partner.

Sooo overall I'd say softcore. I can still enjoy a yaoi even without the sex, but if it's just sex it's not enjoyable for me. I think I'm one of only people in the world who reads yaoi for plot.

If I feel naughty, I prefer hardcore of course (but I start with softcore). There are days that I feel romantic though, so I watch mostly softcore material
