You, Me, and the End of the World [private rp between myself and Ybfan]

Name: Brandon Jay Matthews
Age: Twenty-seven
Weight: 84 kg
Height: 187 cm
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
Pack: Lighter, cigarettes, 9mm, handgun ammo, and a foot long hunting knife.
Traits: Detached, Impetuous, Lackadaisical, Protective
Bio: Brandon through he had seen it all. Working in law enforcement, he had been around all sorts of things that made prepared him for such a day, but he didn't think he would lose it like he did.

The day it happened was like any other day. He went to work, said hello to his co-workers, go back in his car, and went on his rounds. Then he felt something. A large wave, a boom that made no sound, but had a large effect on the environment. Every electronic device around him just shut off. Cars stopped in the middle of the road and people went into a fit of rage. At first, people though it was something minor, but as the days went by and the time without technology became longer, many people became restless, taking their anger to the streets. Wars raged, the government fell, and humanity had lost everything. Brandon's family was only one of the many families that fell apart. 'Taking care of each other was becoming a chore,' his father said. 'Why do I have to care about what happens to you,' he said. Brandon was tired of hearing his father voice. His complaining and whining, but it didn't last long. His father tired to kill him one day, but Brandon wouldn't give up. He wouldn't go down without a fight. He shot his father, pointed the gun right in his face and pulled the trigger. No matter how much he cleaned himself, he could still feel his blood all over his body.

After that, he became independent, living for himself and only him. He lost all humanity in himself and became a savage, killing the innocent and those who stood in his way of survival. He did it, not caring for consequences, but part of him felt a cringe in his stomach every time he pulled the trigger on another person. The small shred of humanity left in him, stopped him from taking the time of a helpless mother and he child. He held them at gun point, as she pleaded for her and her son's life. He couldn't doubt the fact that, that could have been him, in his mother arms. He pulled away and ran off. He wanted to take his own life, but failed. He could never bring himself to go through with it, and that was how he found them. A group of survivors, people who held onto their humanity with every fiber of their being. They didn't hurt others or take lives to live. They did it civilly, which confused Brandon. It was the end of the world and these people still strive to make it better with what they had. They offered Brandon somewhere same. Somewhere to call home. The notion was nice and all, but it wasn't protection he needed, but retribution. He knew that how he had been living wasn't right, and he wanted to repent for the things he had done, the lives he had taken.

He joined the group and soon after met the leader's son. Brandon never took notice of him at first, but as time passed by, something about the boy struck him as odd. For a while now, he had been getting along with him, and the consistent flirting was becoming a normality for the two. Brandon never did this, and now he questions himself. Here comes this complete stranger and they become okay friends, and then casual flirting and whatnot, and suddenly Brandon can't tell if he likes the guy or not. He can;t even tell if he's straight anymore. As if he need more problems in his life.

Brandon peaked the corner, gun readied and sights set on his enemy. He peered around and saw them, two men. One was younger, maybe mid twenties, and the other looked older, possibly around his late fifties. Brandon took a deep breath, seeing them just sit there at the fire. He didn't want to, but he knew he had to, to survive and live on. He quickly made his way over to a mound of debris off to the side of him. One of the men looked up and reached for his gun, but soon retreated as he turned back to the other. The were talking, or at least, that's what it looked like. Brandon kept an eye on the two. He was still a bit shaken up form earlier when he had to kill that other guy. It wasn't something he enjoyed, but he did it to live. the supplies he had on hand were useful and Brandon needed anything he could get his hands on. Brandon continued to creep he way towards the two. He made a few stops, hiding in the shadows when he would notice one of the men stand up and look around or walk about the camp. Brandon didn't need any of them knowing he was around, not yet at least. Once he knew the coast was clear, he would continue again. It wasn't long till he got close enough and held them at gunpoint.

"Stand up" he said, his tone of voice rather fearful and strained. They sat there for a few second, motionless, till Brandon repeated himself. "I said stand up!" The two stood up slowly, one reached for his gun, and Brandon shot in it's general direction. "Don't do anything you'll fucking regret, got it? Now, put your hands behind your heads, turn around, and face me." The two men did as they were asked till the younger one reached for his his pocket to pull out a handgun. Brandon panicked and did the only thing that ran through his mind. Shot. There was some screaming and then crying. The older male ran over to the younger one, saying things like son. Brandon could felt bad, but he couldn't go back. He walked over to the older man who straddled the lifeless body of his son, Brandon pointing a gun right at his face. The man looked at him, fear in his eyes. "I'm sorry...dad." Shot.

"Fuck!" Brandon looked around him, seeing faces he remembered. "Brandon, wake up. This ain't the time to be sleeping on the job kiddo." James, the leader of there group called out to him. They were back out on the field, searching for supplies. Brandon hand nodded off after they took a break. He shook his head, rubbing his eyes slightly. Last night's sleep wasn't the most peaceful. "Sorry bout' that James." The older man scoffed and turned around looking out ahead. The two men were on okay grounds, but Brandon knew he never really trusted him. "Anyways, let's keep walking. We're easy pray for the scavengers if we're just sitting around." Brandon pushed himself off the ground and wiped himself off a bit, picking up his gun and walked ahead with the others. In the group so far were mostly men. It was hims, James, James' son, one of the other guys names Billy, and a girl named Jade. She was pretty hard-headed and was sort of like one of the boys. They took off this morning for supplies and were now headed back toward home base. It was a small camp grounds near a lake out in the forest. It was well hidden and of course the fear of intruders was always a concern, but many of the people that were part of this group were skilled enough to handle themselves in a fight, of course they chose to not get to involved in fighting.

"Hurry up, we don't want the sun setting before we reach base. Will only make it that much harder to get back home, now lets go." James yelled to the others before hurrying on ahead.

Name: Miles James Brooks
Age: 25
Weight: 145 lbs
Height: 5'9"
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Brown
Pack: 7" hunting knife, pack of condoms, 9mm, back pack, rations for 2 days (dried fruits, nuts, etc)
Traits: Joyful, flirtatious, stubborn
Bio:

When everything went down, Miles was working at a home improvement store and did his best to help everyone get to a safe place. His father James came and picked him up in uniform as they met up with others from the police force to look for those that they could live with and build a new world so to speak.

Miles knew a lot about landscaping and was the assistant manager in the garden department when the store was up and running. Plus they all lived in the country where they had cattle and their own crops. His late mother was very big on that sort of thing, so it wasn't too hard when they had to figure out how to make their own food source and preparing for the seasons.

When they met Brandon, Miles wasn't sure about trying to save the man since well...he wasn't the most civil person they met, but not the worst. His father and comrades were smart and were able to stop anything from escalating and surprisingly...brought Brandon back to humanity. Mile's wasn't always sure so was wary of him, however Miles couldn't deny one thing. The man was pretty cute.

Miles watched Brandon as they were bringing their supplies back wondered if Brandon will go back to becoming a savage someday if something traumatic happens. He stayed in the back with Jade with his backpack full and began to daydream a little.

Hmmmm I wonder if Antonio or Lisa are free tonight if we make it to camp on time...plus I need a hot shower... Miles thought to himself as he envisioned either one of them joining him which made a stupid smirk appear on his face. Jade brought him back to reality when she nudged him in the hip.

"Hey, didn't you just hear what your father just said to Brandon? That goes to you too, she says and begins to leave him behind.

"You were so much cuter when you were younger...also why in the world did you even come along again? Last time I checked, babysitting isn't part of the supply run, said Miles as he ran up to her and gave her a hip bump as he gave a small playful laugh.

Brandon watched as Miles rushed from behind him and bumped Jade in the hip, making his remarking as laughing as he always did afterwards. "She's got a sharp eye and she can handle a gun possibly better then you, Miles." Brandon responded sarcastically following the two from behind. It's true she was younger then Brandon, Miles, and Billy, but she was no pushover and could handle a gun better then most guys could at the precinct Brandon used to work at. Brandon caught up, standing beside the younger male, making another smart remark. "Plus, she's excellent at hand to hand combat. Maybe if you spent less time in the garden, you could be just as good as her." Brandon said he said just to spite the other male, but he didn't mean to offend. He's spared with Miles a few times and he can see that if he really focused, he could be just as good. Billy walked right beside Jade, holding the gun close to him. The kid was a bit paranoid, but he was just really cautious.

"How much further till we hit the city limits, James?" Mile's father had an excellent sense of direction and was able to peg out and pin point exact locations on maps. From what Brandon has heard, James was a cop himself, although Brandon doesn't remember working under him so it was safe to assume he worked in a different county. He never talked to the man all that much, but he could always feel like he didn't really feel comfortable with Brandon in the group. He never bothered to figure out the reason behind his feelings towards Brandon, but at the same time, he was a tad curious and often wanted to ask Miles about it.

(under 1.86 miles)

"Just under three clicks and once we go over this ridge, we will be seeing home sweet home.. However don't slack off just because we are closer got it?" Replies James and not just to Brandon, but to everyone in the group.

"Lay off, dad. He is doing just fine and yeah I know. But I like my garden and landscaping so that's why I don't focus on it too much unless I have. Granted the old man says the same thing, but whatever. If you want we can spar later," Miles retorts to Brandon with a flirty smile.

"Don't worry, Brandon. I will protect Miles from anyone since I am a sharp shooter," Jade beamed up at Miles and grabbed his arm playfully. "Plus I need a man like Brandon in my future. Strong, handsome, good with a gun and a great fighter."

"What am I? Chopped liver?" Says Miles as he feigns pain and sorrow on his face and chokes on his laughter.

Brandon smiled at Jade comment and laughed a little when Miles replied back. "Compared to me, you might as well be, buddy." Brandon threw his arm over Mile's shoulder and laughed. "Keep it down back their! We don't need to bring any unwanted attention on to ourselves, understood?" James barked harshly at the group behind him as the all toned down. "Yes sir", they all replied. Brandon took his arm off Mile's shoulder and handled his gun with both hands. A simple Beretta lay in his clutches. He didn't need to get on James' bad side, or anymore on his bad side. The group pressed forward and continued to make their way through the city. The sun was setting slowing, but they had no time to mess around. It's was dangerous to be caught out in the open at night. That was when all the looters came out, any Brandon knew from experience that they killed first and asked question later.

As they pressed onward, Brandon noticed something to his side. He didn't directly look over, but he saw a shadow. Something in the building moving and scurrying about. He quickened his pace to walk next to James and whisper over to him. "I think we're being followed."

"I know." James was already aware of that fact, but he knew that acting out would not help the situation. Brandon on the other hand felt that his team was in danger, but he knew better then to go against James. "Just keep walking and don't act suspicious. Might just be stragglers, but gun shots alter more and we don't have the man power on hand to handle a group of scavengers." Brandon nodded his head, but still kept his gun close. He clutched onto it tightly, keeping his defenses up.

"Hold on a second guys, I need to tie my shoes." Billy bent over and reached for his shoes. "Hurry it up son." Billy went through the whole process as the group stood idle. Brandon looked around a bit, when he caught something shine off in one of the buildings. He looked in the direction and saw something peaking out of the window. He couldn't make out exactly what it was, but it didn't take him long to react and then realization kicked in. He ran over to Billy and swooped him off the floor just in time for the sniper to miss. "RUN!" Soon enough a group of scavenger come out form a near buy building.

The group took cover behind a toppled over vehicle as gun shots blazed through the air.

Miles smiled as he wrapped his arms around Jade and Brandon wrapped his arm around his shoulders. When his father barked, Miles couldn't help but mimic this father in facial features and lip service. "Thanks Brandon. Hope I won't have to use it today though," said Miles as he took the weapon and holstered it. Not being fully aware what was going on, he kept his hold on Jade and wondered what Brandon and his father was talking about when Brandon suddenly left his side.

Huh...I wonder what they are talking about.

Making random conversation with Jade, he picked her up and swung her as Billy began to tie his shoes. But hearing Brandon and the gun shot, he picked up her up and held her close. Taking the gun that Brandon had given him, he aimed and shot at a couple of the scavengers getting at least one of them.

"Jade, stay down and next to me got it?" He ordered. He didn't care if she was a sharp shooter. She was still a child in his eyes and he was going to protect her.

Brandon let go of Billy and pulled the second Berreta out of it's holster. He took the safety off and turned around, taking cover behind the car. He toko a few shots, but he was feeling a share pain in his leg so the pain was throwing him off a bit. Miles and JAmes were returning shots just as much as the scavengers, Jade was dishing out shots to, but Miles holding her back was not helping, and Billy was merely in shock. It's was understandable. He almost got shot by a sniper. It's hit Brandon then that the sniper may still be in the building. He peaked over and noticed someone on the third floor, the second window to the left fidgeting around and reloading. "James, the building all the scavengers came out of. On second story, the second window to the left, the sniper is still their." Roman struggled a bit with the words, but he managed to make his sentence coherent. Once he saw James trying to make a clear shot, Brandon joined Miles and Jade in trying to take the rest on the ground out.

It was five people, but they managed to get the numbers down till only one of them was left. He ran off and James managed to get a shot at the window. He said he saw someone fall back, but wasn't sure it was a clear shot. If anything, he wounded them so hopefully that was it. "Everyone alright" James' sputtered to the others. "I took a hit when the sniper tried to get Billy." He twisted his leg, a clear cut from the bullet. Nothing to serious, but it was bleeding a lot and it did look deep. "Bullet must have grazed you, but it doesn't look to bad. We'll have Nora take a look at it when we get back to camp. Who brought the first aid kit." James picked up Brandon's let, waiting for someone to pull it out of their pack.

Miles was worried that Jade was going to get hurt, but he had to admit. She helped in taking down some of the men. To Miles, the shoot out seemed to last forever and he just hoped that no one got hurt. When he heard Brandon speak about the sniper in the building, he paled and looked back to everyone. However he was happy that his father was able to take him out and was happier when Brandon came over to him and Jade.
When Brandon told them that he was hit, Miles quickly looked at Brandon's leg and sighed with relief that is wasn't as bad as it could be (hitting bone). When his father picked up Brandon's leg, Miles went through his fathers pack and got the basic first aid kit.

"Jesus Brandon. Don't scare me like that," said Miles and he helped his father patch Brandon back up.
