Personally, I hate all the above. I remember watching Winter Chicada, Ai no Kusabi, Legend of the four horsemen (without knowing they were tragedies) and I still haven't recovered from the initial shock.
Life's full of anger, hatred, anguish, misery and death as it is. Why not try to make it better, at least in works of fiction?
Pls tell me what you think.

I too am not a fan of all that. But,weather I like it or not is irrelivent. Art in any form or geren,is the expression and preception of the artist/author. To some who are into these things,it may just be a way to express or deal with thier feelings of the ugliness in our world,to others it my be a way of exploring thier darker self.

Im going to parphase a quote I heard once. Light can not exsist without the dark and dark can not exsist without the light. Ignoring the dark side of life is not going to make it go away, nor lessen its impact in our lives. We all have to find positive ways to deal with the dark,so we are not swallowed up by it.

<<Ok, yes I can get long winded. My apologies>>

I agree, life is already full of pain and misery, so why have it in fiction as well? but at the same time, I don't mind a bit of tragedy, angst, etc as long as there is a happy ending. I think that there needs to be a bit of pain, angst, etc for the plot to be more real and more believable but the ending should always be a happy one because there aren't enough happy endings in his world.

I actually enjoyed Ai no Kusabi, even the ending (which totally had me crying). But I enjoyed it even more when I went online and read fanfics where they had a happy ending instead

Well i think that it would add a nice touch to any story because most yaoi works are a bit..... pointless. But not too much.

Haven't seen legend of the four horsemen but I've seen the other two and they are some of the most compelling yaoi I've seen. If you're looking for something a bit less intense Kizuna is a great story and Junjou Romantica is pretty fluffy. Personally I like the darker more tragic stories. I can't quite put my finger on it but it just makes the story interesting. I wouldn't say more believable/realistic because even these stories with their dark ending are not a realistic portrayal of life. That's not the point. The point is to tell a story, to see a truth in people. I guess I find the obsessive overbearing side of love intriguing? Not sure =p

I'm not a big fan of them either, and I agree with what you said about there being too much of anger, hatred, anguish, misery in the world as is. I mean, some sad moments in the story are fine, as long as there's a happy ending

Exactly! In real life you alvays have to put some effort in a relationship or anything like that. A love story is too corny for me without some pain and writhing. As for violence and gore...they add a nice touch to special stories. I love the aspects of dark fics.

gore, bloodsports, scat, zoo, necro... those are all things im revolted by.
but i think they should be allowed. i just think people should be considerate enough to tag it correctly, so you dont just accidently see it if you dont want to.

with violence, i guess its a matter of definition and personal taste. im into BDSM and kinky stuff. i guess that may be already too violent for some. but i have my limits too.

how 'tragedy' fits into this discussion i dont quite understand.

the only thing i think should be forbidden is shota/pedo. even if its just drawings, those flames should not be fanned.
